Frequently Asked Questions
A favicon (short for "favorites icon") is the small icon displayed in browser tabs, bookmarks, and address bars next to your website's name. Favicons help users quickly identify your site among multiple open tabs, improve brand recognition, and make your website look more professional. Modern browsers and devices require multiple favicon sizes for optimal display across desktops, tablets, and mobile home screens.
A complete favicon set includes: 16Γ16 (browser tab), 32Γ32 (taskbar/bookmark), 48Γ48 (Windows site icon), 64Γ64 (high-DPI tabs), 128Γ128 (Chrome Web Store), 180Γ180 (Apple Touch Icon for iOS), 192Γ192 (Android Chrome), and 512Γ512 (Progressive Web App splash screen). Our generator creates all these sizes automatically from a single uploaded image.
For best results, use a square PNG image at least 512Γ512 pixels with a transparent background. SVG files also work excellently as they scale without quality loss. JPG images work too but don't support transparency. Simple, bold designs with high contrast work best for favicons since they need to be recognizable at very small sizes like 16Γ16 pixels.
Add favicon link tags inside the <head> section of your HTML. Our generator provides ready-to-use HTML snippets. At minimum, include a 32Γ32 icon and a 180Γ180 Apple Touch Icon. Upload the generated favicon files to your website's root directory and paste the HTML code into your pages. For Progressive Web Apps, also include the 192Γ192 and 512Γ512 sizes in your web manifest.
